About two weeks ago, immediately after getting cut open, I picked up a relatively quick painting commision that was due this past friday. It was for a show produced by Piccolo Theatre in Evanston. Here are pictures of the process:

That was the sketch I submitted to the client, for approval. It was going to be 6x8 ft.

Luckily, a couple months ago, I purloined a piece of green canvas exactly that size, at an abandoned/rundown mall, at 95th and western.(along with a 3 ft. icecream cone, a wheelchair, a 12 ft. steel radio tower, a box of small boxes, and two blue batman boxes)

The green canvas had to be gessod so I could paint on it, so while that was going on, I photographed a model and a toy horse, and used a headshot of one of the actors in the show, and made this mockup:

After the gesso was dry, I took the canvas and my laptop, and went down to my brother's computer lab and used his lcd projector, projected the image on the canvas, and sketched it out in pencil. I took it back to my parents backyard, and spent the next week and a half slowly(i did just have surgery) filling in the image.

Now obviously there's not a lot of detail, but it was supposed to be seen from far away, hung off the Metra platform at Main St. in Evanston, for Custer Fair:
